What does a normal PSA result mean for me?

A normal PSA result means you are unlikely to have cancer at this time. You don’t need to do anything else.

However, a normal result does not mean you won’t or can’t develop prostate cancer in the future and having another PSA test in 2-3 years may be sensible.

There are some symptoms to watch out for including:

  • Blood in your pee
  • Losing weight for no reason you can explain – like dieting or more exercise
  • If you have been getting unusual back pain, or pain in the hips or pelvis
  • If you have started to have problems getting an erection

None of these symptoms mean that you definitely have a prostate cancer, but they are all important and worth talking about with your GP.
